Thumbs up 1901 and 1917 half from a union camp in the same hole

is my best but jeffers hit it big this summer with a 1854 half dime and a 1861 dime. i guess a logger lost his pay the 1917 half was a buety until i rubbed the soil of to see the date and scratched it.lesson learned.odd thing is that i found a 3 ring bullet within 5 feet of the coins and at a lesser depth.

Only my 2nd bison nickel mr silver and it was a thrill to find as much as a nice Kirk point! i guess i have coin fever now. am still learning the DFX but am getting better by the day.

thanks for the replys!

Hi Tom

Those are some good coins!! two of my favorites !!

as you know I like to relic hunt also,, but I think that metal detecting and relics go together real well

Just a week or so ago, there was a group from the college went out to a battlesite here in NM and while doing the excavation every few inches they used metal detectors, and found several Iron points, and some other primitive Iron tools along with the expected stone points and pottery.

I thought this was an inovative method, but then I found out that the instructor was a detector enthusiast then it all made sense !!

edited to add: they also found many rifle casings and bullets!!

Rick
