I haven't been able to get out for a couple days....so I got out for about 3 1/2 hours this morning. It felt good to be swingin' the coil.
I started this morning with the goal of filling out a roll of clad quarters and a roll of pennies....as twisted as that sounds ....so I went to the local school yard that I haven't detected in 14 years. When I came around the front of the school, right by the sidewalk....I got a strong dime signal. The detector said it was about 4 inches down. I pulled the plug, and after a little searching through the plug....out popped a 1934 mercury dime in fine condition but pretty dark. Just goes to show you....silver's where you find it...and none of these places are ever truly hunted out. Totals for this morning: 17 clad quarters 14 dimes, including the merc 6 nickels 6 pennies....all memorials and no zinc jobs. I'm going to go back after I grab a bite. I found enough pennies....but I'm still short of dimes, so I have to go find enough dimes to fill this roll yet. Maybe I'll score more silver....but I'm not going to hold my breath. That one was a lucky shot in the dark. Wyatt Last edited by Wyatt Earp; 10-15-2005 at 02:52 PM. |

Actually Pete, I thought about you when I unearthed the surprise merc today. It was about a foot from a recently installed (replaced) sidewalk. I figure it must have been dredged up a few years ago when they laid up the forms for the cement.
I returned to the scene of the crime this afternoon to see if I could complete my roll of dimes...and I did it. I needed to find 28 dimes....and left after the 28th one was in my pocket. The evening netted: 4 quarters 28 dimes 4 nickels 7 pennies ...and lots of fun. Wyatt |

Hey Boobie.....You're right about how fast you can fill 'em up. I have only been back in the hobby for 6 or 7 weeks, and have rolled 50 dollars in clad and pennies of every description (except Indian Heads...I have a small "tribe" of those stashed away now)
I have found 15 silver coins in that time....3 quarters and a dozen dimes. My total finds....is just over 1000 coins in 6 weeks. Granted, most of it's just junk money...but it's money. Wyatt |

I actually have lots of experience with this machine....but it'd been 10 years or so since I'd had it out last. Got busy with work and "other" things. After my 2 heart attacks this summer (I'm 47) I decided to get back into it. I didn't have to learn the machine....which is a big "plus". All I needed to do was muster the courage to ask some folks if I could detect on their property. It gets easier each time, at least it has for me. Folks are pretty amiable about it in this area. There are exceptions....but most have been really generous in letting me hunt.
