Default Oct 20th finds. Odd bullet check it out.

Tonight me and A.J. got out to our old CW grounds for a few hours of relaxation. We both had many finds, I even found 2 new types of CW bullets out of this site, total is 8 differant types from here. The real shocker is this miniature bullet at the right. Its not carved but a full bullet, it looks like a minature 3 ringer. I put it beside a small haversack button for size compairison. Any info on this would be welcomed....HH....Bill

Nice digs Bill. I can't be positive but that small one may be a CW .32 cal Smith and Wesson. Can you retake the pic so it is a little clearer. I couldn't make out the ring pattern. Good to see you and AJ out getting some bulllets.

Default Hmmm

It does have the shape of the S&W revolver .32 and .31, but compaired to my .36 colt navy it is sooooo much smaller. Is it possible i have found 2 bullets that are very rare? and the signal on this tiny thing was almost non existant. This is part of what makes this hobby so enjoyable.
A.J. found where the yanks had set up a target for shooting practice tonight, he didnt move for atleast 30 to 40 minutes. but again, his story ill let him tell it....HH....Bill

Default dimentions.

Went to work today and used a set of calipures on it. leangth is .352 and width is .218. It fits almost to a .22 but looking at it I dont see how it could possibly be. It looks just the same as the S&W pistol bullets...HH....Bill

Hi Bill!

Looking at the bullet, I'd say it's an early .22... If you look at the base, you can see the smaller shank. That is where it would go into a .22 case.
The shank is short, but remember that at this time, the production of .22 rounds was in its first decade (introduction about 1857).
The external rings may have been a carry over from the design of larger bullets, and later discarded.
What's the weight of the bullet?
Excellent finds!

HH! -Tom

It looks like you are really trying to load up on the good finds before you have to go. Hunt it all you can. You should be able to set up a good display now. What area were you guys working yesterday? Keep Digging.

The best of luck to you all! It's nice to be able to go digging but even better when you find something!
