Default 2 mercs...2 chances...2 strikes...

I decided to go back to the yard that coughed up the 2 worn Denver minted mercs...then 2 rosies and a war nickel....and tonight I scored 2 mercs from the back, nearer to the clothesline (still haven't made it to that area yet).

I found a 1942 mercury dime...lying on top of the ground. I moved the leaves to begin to make a plug, and saw silver. I checked with the loupe when I got home....maybe a 42/1...no such luck...strike one.

About 3 feet from that dime, I found a 45 at about 3 inches. Hey... a chance for a micro S....nope....strike 2. It's a philly dime, but in nice enough shape.

This little postage stamp of a yard has given up 7 silver coins in 3 visits. I'm going to keep milking this one until it goes completely dry. There's still that clothesline area....and hmmmmm....that neighbor's yard looks pretty enticing too. That's another knock on the door for another time.

I also found just short of a buck for the clad box...might be a wheatie or 2..I don't know yet.

I wish folks lost more quarters in the old days

Wyatt

I need to go back when there's a bit more daylight left. I was only able to hunt for an hour and 10 minutes tonight. It was a productive hunt if a short one though. I think I should change my user name to "da dime dude". I've found 27 silver coins this year (since mid July)...and 24 are dimes. I'm real grateful when I find a silver quarter. I don't know if I would survive finding a half or a silver dollar. I'd probably need my nitro tablets.

Default Milk it to the max!

Take your time, go slow, and clean it out.
Make notes, and if you get an even better detector, come back in the future and try that place again.

The soil in this little yard is very hard and compacted. Nothing is very deep. I expect there are probably more coins there yet...and I'm going to continue to work it until I think it's empty. The clay is down about 5 inches, and nothing can really go beyond that depth, so I don't think I'm missing a lot. Most of the coins are shallow enough to be "easy money".

Default Congrats on your findings Wyatt!!

Are still using your Whites 6000, turn your disc. above foil on your machine you'll get deep one's and coin's that on edge(standing straight up and down). And around clothlines is the best in old homes to look for coins. In the older days when did not have dryer. The mom's and grandmother's would take the pants out to dry outside and silver coins would fall to the ground and lost forever.

Hi Perry........I run the discrimination at about 4....just at the point where I occassionally dig a deep pc of foil. Clothesline areas have been very good for me as a rule, and I'll bet there's a few coins hiding there for me. I just haven't gotten to that area yet. It's under a big sycamore tree....and I'm going to rake up their leaves for them so I don't have to fight through them.

It's funny, I didn't set out with the thought of finding anything "special"....I just figured I'd get out and swing the coil for awhile to see how I'd hold up in 45 degree weather, and maybe stick some clad finds in my silver fund box......

It feels warmer when you're hitting silver. I forgot all about it being chilly.

I have never been to that schoolhouse, but I now know where you mean. My step-son lives about a minute from there...across from the museum. I've been having so much fun a half a mile from my house that I haven't hardly ventured out that far. I may check it out one day....as soon as I get downtown Greensboro cleaned up. Them danged coins are litterin' up the place somethin' awful. It's my civic duty to "clean up"

How's your health these days?

Wyatt
