Default The one that got away...

I set a small goal for myself yesterday. when I reallized I'd dug 28 pieces of silver this month, I decided that it'd be cool if I found 31...one for each calendar day in October. This morning I went to a new place.....and scored 5 silver roosevelt dimes in about an hour and a half. I just slip them in my wallet and have never had one eject....well, apparently 5 is too many to have in there like that.

I took my wallet out and heard a "ting"......and looked....oh no...2 of my dimes were awol. It took me 5 minutes of eyeballing the road to find even one of them. The other one's laying there somewhere.

Is that embarrassing or what? I'm supposed to be finding the stuff...and I'm out there losing it instead.

I still exceeded my goal....by one thin dime.

Thanks Rusty.......That one I lost really tweaks my melon....so I went out and dug 3 more to replace it. a 64, a 52-D, and a 1948. I really think they held carnivals there or something. The silver dimes are all on one side of the lot. Then again, maybe there used to be swings there or something. That's the problem with being a foreigner.

Besides the 5 silver rosies this morning....I found a clad quarter....26 pennies, incuding 5 wheats, the most interesting of which were the 1926 and 1928. I also claimed 3 clad dimes.

This afternoon's hunt gave up 2 clad quarters, 4 clad dimes, and 15 more pennies. No nickels....either trip. Also no larger silver...as is normal. There was a craze of detectorists herre about 20 years ago. Dang near all of the larger denomination silver has already been bagged. I'm pretty surprised that this church lot is giving me so many thrills. I know it's been hit too many times to mention. The 6000 always did excel at cleaning up those pesky silver dimes that others miss.

This machine is a coin rake......When it dies, i'm going to get it bronzed

lol. You should have it bronzed. Those other coins that you found are good also. I bet there are some larger denomination coins there. In my opinion there is no spot ever hunted out.

The deepest silver today was 5 inches. I'll get to hunt these places again come springtime after I have had my machine checked out and calibrated this winter. maybe it's just not hitting deeper dimes....but that seems awfully odd.

I also find clad quarters as deep as 5 inches.....none at 6....

Part of me is saying "send the 6000 in for service...and make yourself learn to program the Eagle".

The part of me that likes finding even shallow silver...says.."it can wait...we're having too much fun right now"

I wish you the best of luck with the church lot. The ground must be real soft there and i bet there are a lot of real old and larger denominations there just out of reach. What is the depth that your 6000 capable of? I don't know but if the Spectrum can hit a little deeper i would try that one atleast once.

The deepest I've ever dug a silver dime was a seated at about 8 inches. That was in very wet soil...near the downspouts of my mother's garage. Must have had a whopper of a halo. More typical depth is 6 inches or so on dimes. I haven't dug a dime over 5 inches deep all month....so methinks something is amiss. Occassionally the VDI is wrong also....telling me pennies are quarters.

I might fire up the Eagle Pro and give it a go. 27 pages of instructions though...geeeez, give me a break. I do know that this machine has accounted for a 1909 barber quarter at 9 inches though....right after my buddy bought it in 1992-93 or so. I've never dug a quarter that deep with the 6000.

I'm still countin' Boobie.....This little town still has so many places where I need to go...and the private yards may still contain some quarters and halves for me yet. I have found onlsilver quarters this month....all on private property. I'm not surprised that there's only rosies in this churchyard...dimes get missed. I am surprised that there's silver there at all however.
