I went back to the schoolhouse again this morning....and I actually found some rings....and after I dug up the second piece of crap smashed aluminum adjustable gumball machine ring I remember thinking..."I wonder if I should have specified (when asking that the curse be lifted by whatever evil powers had created it) that I'd like to find a ring that wasn't junk"
About an hour later, I dug a nice floral band in sterling silver....with a mark like I've not encountered. It has the capital letter "U"....with arrows on either side of it....kind of like this STERLING >U< ...whatever that means....I'm happy to have found it. I got a reprieve from the "no obsolete coins at the old schoolyard" curse too when late in my excursion I unearthed 2 mercury dimes..1944 and 1945. I had already scored a pair of rosies...a 64 and a 52. I have a handful of dirty wheaties and clad to scrub up later.....probably nothing really cool...but they're too filthy to tell right now. That's "all the news that's fit to print for right now. Was a fun day. ....but it wasn't over.....my wife went to sleep after supper instead of going to WalMart as we'd agreed earlier. I went back and snagged a 41 merc, a 52 rosie (2nd one today) and a 56 rosie. Also got 8 pennies (5 wheats) and a lonesome clad dime. Wyatt Last edited by Wyatt Earp; 10-29-2005 at 07:06 PM. |

There's plenty of silver (dimes) in this town it seems. Come down and mine some sometime.
When I started back nto this in mid July, I had 27 silver dimes....mixed mercs and rosies in one of those plastic tubes which I'd found back in the 90s (the dimes...not the tube). With Greensboro's contributions, I had to kick the mercs out and let FDR set up residence in that tube. I need 3 more silver roosevelt dimes to have a full roll....and I have 29 mercs to boot. It's been a blast.....but I really need to get back to some private residences if I want to find anything bigger than a dime. Wyatt |

Actually.......I have been digging higher meter readings in search of coins which also explains the sterling ring. When the silver slows down, I'll start digging more interesting artifacts...and maybe even a little piece of gold. This place ain't likely to spit up much gold....it's an elementary school playground......oh, wait a minute, that's where I found the last white gold 1/4 carat solitaire....different school though, mind you.
