Had a pretty good day today. Got a new machine....so now my old one can go back. I invited Greg to do a little hunting at the old school I've been detecting, and we got to hunt together for awhile this morning. I ended up spending 6 hours at the schoolyard today. My feet said "go home....we hurt".....so I finally did.
I also found some silver today....a 1944-P war nickel...2 silver rosies, a 54-D and a 60-D, a 1941-D mercury dime, and in about an hour after Greg left....I found a pair of 1942 quarters. One was right by the flagpole pad in front of the school, and the other was in the play lot behind the school. My "old" 6000 should have picked either up easily...but I just didn't swing the coil there apparently. The one in front of the school was only 2 1/2 inches deep. I was certain that it would be clad because it was so shallow....wrong. I also found this really cool square, holed token that says "good for one exploder" on one side, and on the other side it says "Brown supply store No 2"....must have something to do with mining. Another token I found today was one of James Garfield. I found James Polk yesterday in the same area. Made some modern coin finds.....3 clad quarters, 3 clad dimes, and 14 pennies. I think there are a couple wheats, but they're still dirty. Wyatt |

Thanks Boobie.....Location, location, location as they say. I'm fortunate and I know and appreciate that fact.
The 64 rosie in the picture has a story all it's own. I lost it in front of the post office, and the lady who does the custodial work there walked from her house about a block to the old school and said "I think I have something that belongs to you"...and handed me the dime. I told her that after I lost it it was "fair game"......but she insisted that I take it...and needless to say, Ivetta is on my Christmas Card list now for sure. The dim'es been run over a time or 2 since last week, but I was still happy to get it back in my pouch Wyatt Last edited by Wyatt Earp; 11-05-2005 at 10:06 PM. |

Hey Greg.......Found out a little bit about the token. It was from either the Alicia Mine or one of the 3 mines in the village of Poland Mines. They were all owned and operated by W Harry Brown (Pittsburgh Pa) between 1916 and 1922.
There should have been a row of privies......but I want to get under that asphalt slab! Wyatt |

Hi John.......There are 32 fewer pieces of silver in the ground than there were 2 weeks ago. I'm sure there's still more there though, but I think I got the easy stuff cleaned up. I scored a couple more good places to check out just today.....and might have some luck there....who knows?
