I went back to search along the sidewalk some more.....bingo, another half dollar reading...at 4 inches. Well, there was no half dollar this time....but this was at 6 inches.

I ain't good, at least not better than anybody else.......I'm lucky....as in "lucky this place still has stuff to give". I can't believe that I was told it was hunted out.
I've made an interesting observation here lately.....the bigger coins seem to be at lesser depths. The dimes go way deep....quarters are at 3 and 4 inches....and the walkers have been quite shallow...2 to 2 1/2 inches. Wyatt |

Hey Rip....
Both Walkers came from fringe areas.....the edges. I spent 2 weeks digging silver dimes "in the middle" of the lot, when all the big silver was at the edges. Hunt those fringe areas. I've heard it before.....now I can attest to it. Wyatt |

Hey Pappy........I got out my "peep-n-stein".....my loupe...and found the ring is stamped MH as well as Sterling. I found this blurb on the web....they were talking about a bracelet...a Sterling one set with faux diamonds and rubies. Looks like this may have been made by the same company. If it is....then it's pretty old. Probably lost in the 50s or 60s though.
In the book, American Jewelry Manufacturers, by Dorothy Rainwater, on p. 175 there is a similar signature "MH", which states that the mark belongs to "Moore & Hofman" which operated in Newark, New Jersey from 1915 to 1922. Considering the brevity of operation under this signature, this bracelet is likely to be extremely rare. Wyatt |
