Default just starting

Hi,

I'm new to the website and I thought you guys might like to see what i've dug up with the whites prizm IV I just got my dad for his birthday(he hasn't really used that much yet but I tried it a month ago and have been hooked ever since). I started out in my own backyard and found very little except for an old ring and a newer quarter but decided to go to my next door neighbors yard because he has never touched the yard and I belived the house is in the exact state it was in when he got it in 55' which was when the house was built. It turned out to be a better idea than I had originally thought. I found two silver coins(1955 quarter and 60' roosevelt dime), 5 wheat pennies the oldest from 1920, 12 nickels, 70 pennies, 20 dimes and, 20 quarters along with what a belive is a tootsie toy tractor and truck from the same set around the 1940's or 50's, a shell from a rifle, a key to his house and a few more shotgun shell ends. I also went on vacation to gasparilla island and brought along the whites and found an interesting mardi gras token from 1968 on the beach along with the watch face and a bunch of sinkers and new coins. If anyone has suggestions on where I sould go next please do. The problem I face is that I live in the middle of a relatively new area in st.pete florida and im looking for older coins.

Welcome to the forum. I am sure you are going to enjoy it. Living where you do is going to provide you some nice hunting spots. I wish you the best of luck, and am sure you will find the oldies there.

Same problem exists everywhere. I was researching an old fairgrounds....and came to find out it's under an interstate interchange....or the old park that's now under a Dodge dealership. Talk to the old timers...if you can find some that have lived there a long time.....they'll know the old places that are still around.

Default Welcome aboard!

Glad the metal detecting bug has bitten you! Good luck researching new potential sites... You've got some nice finds already.

HH! -Tom

PS Wyatt: One racetrack that I know of is now a railroad switching yard...

Hi Wyatt!

"Only" the swimming hole? With my limited experience, that should be the mother lode! I've not tried to water detect, but have found many rings and coins around them.
*Trying to keep a straight face* For some reason, it seems like folks are in a hurry to get clothes back on, and get out of those places quickly.
In the process, things can get lost.
You should do real well there!

HH! -Tom
One swimming hole has a nice trail of coinage coming out of it.

I'll probably wait until Greg can go with me to check that place out. I'm not ready to say tat it's not been hit....because there were some (and still are some) detectorists in the area.....but it sounds like it's worth a look. There are so many creeks around here....I'll bet there are scores of unhunted swimming holes that have been lost to time.

I built a room addition for a gal 6 or 7 years ago that lives a couple houses up from there. I was told it was hit but you know how that goes

Hey Wyatt, You know the old church up the road from there with the graveyard? I was told years ago that a stage coach stop was there
