Default First Silver and first IH for the Newbee!!!!!

After church, went to the old store and livery stable near my house while the wife and tater-rooter napped. Was gone for 2 1/2 hours. Found 2 1945 Wheaties, a 1903 IH, and a 1916 Barber Dime!!!!! All with in 3 feet of each other. The Barber popped out of the first hole I dug. I could not believe my eyes. Appeared to be at what was the doorway of the store looking at the foundation. Also found a old razor head, and a copper bar or band of some sort with notches in it, and an oyster shell. Must have been a Tavern.

Also found an apparent medicine bottle with "Duraglas" on it measured up the side to 6 ounces. Pappy how old whould that be and worth if you can help. There is also a piece of glass approx. 1/2 inch thick, what could that be from. All the advise and encouragment from this forum payed off for me big time. Thanks everyone.

HH

Rob

Nice finds, Nurse. I love those Indian Heads. I found 20 this year; 41 in less than a year.

Default Finds

ROB, The two items in the upper left corner of the photo are Harmonica Reeds from an old harmonica. The duraglas "PHARMACY" Bottle is from the mid 1950's and should measure about 9" to 9 1/2" tall and would be worth about $3.00- $5.00. Hope this helps a little...PAPPY

Default You got a good spot there!!

May have been a tavern or possibly an old depot of some sort. I am sure your next outing will be as good as this one was. A lot of people I know have never found a Barber... Myself included. Guess the ground ate em up. When it is wet around here I have seen vehicles sink up to the frame so there aint no telling how deep they have went. I know they are out there.. I just haven't found 'em!!

Good luck to you and yours and better watch out for "Taterbug".. You will be buying nother detector before you know it.. I know from experience!!

Heres the bad news for this site. It is on an old dim wooded road that crosses 800 acres of private land behind a locked gate. The site is just off the road in the trees. Not too thick though. The only other people that go back there are deerhunters. It's never been touched. But the fellow letting me MD it is planning to either turn it into a subdivision or sell it to some one that will. There are several other old home sites or whatever that I haven't looked over yet. I feel an urgency. That why I went back to this place and found the coins in the first place. Thought I had alot more time. Anyway, they aren't doing anything yet, so I'll keep on lookin. Hope to find all I can. No telling what will be lost forever.

Any idea where to look for old map or pictures of the area? Whould love to see the place as it was.
