Default Old Picnic Grove!

Hey, guys, I just want to tell everyone about an old picnic grove that I have been researching for awhile. It began in the early 1880s and ended sometime around 1920. After reading many old newspaper articles from the late 1800s, I came across a heading in which it talked about a picnic at this grove that attracted 3000 people in one day. This occurred in this grove during the entire picnic season and lasted for many years. So, while Keith was detecting today, my uncle and I went to scout out the location, and possibly obtain permission to detect.

After about a 20-minute drive, we found the location of the grove, but there was one small problem. The road that led to the grove was on private property and, yadda...yadda...yadda, we were granted permission by the land owner to detect after turkey season -- at the end of May. We are really looking forward to finding many old coins, considering that it was never hunted.

I just read an old newspaper article that said over 12000 people attended this grove in one day in 1906. Chris, Keith, and I are hoping for many Barber coins.

This grove also had "soft-drink" stands. Hey, Zoy, I will be the one to find these areas - I wonder what will be there ? This grove may be an awesome area . Hopefully, we will be able to find a lot of Barbers .

This site will spoil us . Wooded areas are my favorite areas to detect. They tend to be very peaceful and lack the "everyday" roar of traffic. This grove had a dancing pavillion, soda stands, cottages, merry-go-round, etc.. There was an admission to the grove: 10 cents for adults and 5 for children. There has to be tons of old silver coins there. We have to wait a month though, but we are excited about the future!

I would lose sleep over a place like that. I've hunted a few areas similar. One was supposedly "hunted out" but I still managed to find a 1929 class ring and my first standing liberty quarter.

Please....take pictures!!!!!
