Smile Some lower farm finds

Spent some time hunting the lower level of the farm the last couple of days. Grand total 3 wheaties (39,40,47), a Wm. A. Rogers silver plate on copper spoon (very early 1900s?) a set of potmetal tootsietoy discs and an Underwriters Laboratories plate for lightning rod equipment dated 1948.

The unidentifiable globs of metal show up as silver on my tector, but I'm thinking lead. How can I tell?

HJ

Sorry, had to split the pic

hello HJ,I think if you take it to a jeweler they may be able to test to see if its silver,or you could do a specific gravity test. Also see if you can leave a mark on paper.

Default testing silver

.. first try cutting it in half with wire cutters . if it looks really shinny and breaks off cubic like its silver . if its dull and heavy, and you can mar it with your finger nail its lead . if it feels really light for its size and hard to bend . and when bent in half looks like small sparkly particals. its aluminum .. from the pics you took . my guess would be aluminum . because lead should not give you a silver reading on your detector . but a nice big melted chunk of aluminum will give you a silver signal . .. matter of fact i found one just like that long one in your pic . today at my dads farm
