Default Goofy day @ Lacock 4-23-06

Today was one of my worst days
and one of my best.

Harry and I have hunted this place many time before. But since it had been raining we thought we would give it a try again. We found the usual Wheaties and clad, but the heavens opened up and we went to the Hot Dog shop for coffee. Harry decided to head home, I foolishly went back in a light drizzly rain. That in itself was pretty dumb. When I got home I (not thinking) threw a wet towel on the DFX.

I decided to go there again today. I got to hunt for about 3 or 4 minutes. Then the screen started going weird, that is when I noticed the moisture under the screen. So I got in the car & drove home. I got the wifes hair dryer out and dried off the screen and the box. It seemed to work in the my yard

I now drove back again to the same site and started detecting, after about 5 minutes the darned screen went haywire AGAIN, and nothing worked.

Back into the car again and homeward I traveled. Back out with the hairdryer, but this time I really blew it dry a lot better, at least I think so.

Back into the car again to the site. Now it was working OK and everything seemed normal. So I decided to try something a little different. I used the 5 inch coil and upped the preamp up to 3 and the AC sensitivity up to 71.

I thought we had pretty much cleaned out the place and I wanted to get in between some of the trash. I found 6 pennies, I believe 5 of them are Wheaties. Two quarters, one broken baby spoon, one AAA Motor club plaque, (the old type you hooked to the bumper when there were bumpers), and one real old car that is bent completely in half. All of the finds were at least 5 inches deep. So I think the settings I used really worked.

Now it was time to head home for supper with my bride. While detecting on the way back to the car I slipped on some very messy doggy dodo and went down right on my bum. I drove very carefully since I didn't want to be stopped by on of Penna's, finest. They wouldn't understand why a 62 year Ole goat was driving with his pants down to his knees. ( I didn't want to get the doggy dodo on the seats). Of course I had all the windows open as the smell wasn't as nice as my Old Spice.
WHAT A DAY THIS WAS

Default Well, It's good you made it home to post this!!

Imagine the first reaction one of your local authorities would have had if you would have been stopped.. Even more, imagine what your neighborhood gossip would have came up with if you would have been spotted getting out of your car like that!!! Tongues would've wagged!!

Least you know you got your detector dried out. I need to make a mental note to start packing a compact dryer in my gear when I go out on long hunts. Never could hurt. Plus I guess I better take note of extra clothes in case I do the doo too..
