Your thoughts on this...

I went out MDing on Monday for about 5 hours in the morning. I hit a few playgrounds here on base.... (the playgrounds have sand around all the rides) Anyhow I found a ton of newer coins, but I also found a 1917 wheat penny at about 6" deep. That got me wondering how did such an old coin get there? The play grounds are at best maybe 20 years old??
Any thoughts?

That is a good question. It could be that there was something else there before it was a playground, or there might have been fill put on the site. The same is opposite of why is a clad coin down that deep. Or why is a IH on top of the ground. I think everyone in this hobby would like to know those answers, then we could really find TREASURES.
