Nice Finds Urban Digger! Just stating my thoughts without research, the reverse looks like a German coin to me.
Great Find, Continued Good Luck & Happy Hunting, Roger

Osterreich is German for Austria. My father was born in Austria in 47 and remembers the US occupation force being there at least into the early to mid 50s. Could be a momento brought home by one of these soldiers. It has to be a pretty early example of this particular coin, the republic probably did not start minting its own currency until a few years after the WWII dust settled.
