Keith, that V-nickle was never cleaned, the only thing I do with my coins is just wipe the dirt enough to see the date and what it is! I love to find silver, you know when you have silver right away because you can always see a little of the shiny side when you unearth them, and all you have to do is just wipe the dirt off!
Now , I wonder what it is like to find gold.......

I've never seen a V come out looking like that after being in the soil for a 100 years. Nickels usually come out looking black or whatever the soil conditions give them. Your soil must be kind to the coins. Good finds!

The soil aound this county varies from location to location, where the V-nickle and the two barber dimes where found- the soil is dark, and crumbles in your hand, the best soil to dig in !!!! Now in our yard and a few other places I have dug the soil is hard and alot of clay dirt about 4-6 inches deep. So it varies alot up here and you really don't know how the soil will be until you start digging!
