Default Frustrated!!!

Well I managed to get out this past Sunday afternoon to one of the schools in the area and found some clad and a copper ring that surprised me...thinking it was going to be a quarter. Have been hoping to get access to a new area (an old home site and dairy) to hunt and finally got the courage up to ask. I got a few hours this morning to do some digging and the heat is just terrible out in an open field Did manage a couple silver plated spoons (love finding these) and also a stainless steel spoon) (Man these people ate good) I was having a spoon day! Found a neat button I know nothing about...the back is not in real good shape...but enjoyed turning it up! Getting very frustrated on not finding older coins!!!!!!! The place has been dozed and they pushed and buried most of the stuff with just touching the top layer of dirt I was told!!! I am getting trashy signals all over the place...most of my targets are no more than 3 inches in the ground when I dig!!! I am starting to wonder what I am doing wrong for coins!!! Is it me or just that these people just never dropped coins in my area! Or maybe they buried them 10 foot under This is the 3rd or 4th old home site area I have hit and no older coins!!!!!!! Maybe when they dozed the area they buried all the older coins This is the first trip I have made to this area...I am not giving up and I shall return!!!!

Looks like you are finding older things. Keep looking near the stoop and by the sidewalks.

You mean people back then actually dropped coins? Couldn't prove it by me.......... ...

Keep the faith Pat, the law of averages is in our favor.

John...Dig I shall do!!!! All of my targets here I dug were solid sounding tones...except for the knife...it was a very low to high changing tone the whole time I waved the coil...I had to dig to see what it was... I try and dig any target that has a changing tone with it being an old homesite and figure this could be a (how do you say this) a good target that has corroded over time...I would think that the silver coins would be good solid targets...I guess unless they have some trash next to them...making my target signals jump...Targets in this particular area shouldn't be deep with the area being dozed and All of my target depth readings are saying no more than 3 inches in depth...when I dig all of my targets have been no more than 3 or 4 inches at the most...Any one dig a silver coin at 3 inches that have a trashy tone... Just wondering cause my silver coins not more than I would say 6, 7 or 8 inches have been good solid targets...Sure not wanting to miss any!!! Could high mineralization in some areas keep me from getting good tones...Like I say all of the above targets were good solid tones...The button gave me a nickel reading a tone that did not do any jumping around.
Thanks everyone!!!

Hi Pat.......

I've had some sites that looked like they had great potential....just not pan out. There was a local farm here that sold eggs and milk to practically everybody in the county from the 30's and up through the 60's. I got permission to hunt the place...and these people just did NOT lose money. The place was barren of coins. There was plenty of junk, but I only found a few pennies...and those were from more recent inhabitants. I also went to a gran Victorian estate that I was sure would produce....nope....just wasn't anything to be found.

On the flipside.....I've made some very nice finds in very unassuming places. Places that peoe with detectors would tend to NOT get excited about. The best tip I could give anybody....is learn to recognize old turf. If it's been graded and messed with.....you'll probably spend a lot of time not finding much.

Hit it again......you might just have been having an off day. There are days when I swear I can do no wrong....and days that no matter how long and hard I hunt....nothing comes home for the silver pouch.

Best of luck to you.

Wyatt

Default Nice Finds Thou Pat!

You are supposed to find rings, Pat!
Good Luck on finding more coins! Stay It was hot yesterday ,heat index was 93° too hot for me.
Sunday was nice and cool!! But now its a heat wave!
Try to go in circles instead going up and down. Coins on edge seem to sound better if you go in circles It works!! for me!

Hi Pat.
A lot of these old farms just didn't have much money and ran mostly on the barter system. Read the history of my area and that's how things ran. If you had a dairy cow and extra milk you gave it to the guy down the road who had pigs and you would get a baby pig. Trade a couple chickens for a box of peaches and have canned peaches all winter.
Like the spoons you found, good luck finding more... Bob

Thanks for the reminder...I have to remind myself every now and then that most of these people back then would really try and hold on to those coins ( probably not having many in the first place) and not lose them as easily as they are dropped today! So when we do find older coins that is a very lucky thing to happen!!! That calls for a I do love the joy of finding old relics from the past!!! Would just love to add a few more older coins to my collection and maybe a buckle or gold coin, etc..... Oh just setting a goal!
I will get in the right area one of these days!!!

HH to everyone!!!
Pat
