Default Faith restored in 3300

The last couple of times out all I was finding was clad, trash, and memmies at anywhere from 1 to 6 inches deep. I thought maybe the BH 3300 was having trouble finding silver. Well today I went to a rather secluded part of a local park and found a VF1945 Mercury dime five inches deep.
I guess the targets have to be there before you can find them.

I finally realized why I like metal detecting, It is like fishing, you never know what you might get. Good hunting, Merf

Nice silver is always great. How are you liking the 3300? I have one on the way and was wondering how well it works. I have seen some good things about it and was wondering how it had done for others.

I think for the money I paid it cant be beat. It always says that targets are about two inches deeper than they actualy are. Pinpointing is very good once you get used to adjusting the ground balance while you pinpoint. I think on coins max depth is about six inches. The numerical readout jumps around a lot on deep targets. I did find a dime at seven inches in some unusual soil. One thing that I would recomend is to put a couple of wraps of teflon tape around the end of the bolt that holds the coil on before you screw on the nut. On mine the nut kept coming off until I did that.

Merf,

Thanks for the input. I will go ahead and use the teflon tape when I put it together. I should have it by the weekend and hope to take it out for a trial before the weekend is over. Will be posting how I do. Thanks again.

WTG on finding that sweet silver!!! Well the fish wasn't biting today in my part of the field! What is that old saying...if the cows are eating...the fish are biting and if they are laying...no fish biting today...Guess what the cows in my pasture were sleeping!!!

Good hunting to you!
Pat

Default 3300

It seems to be a great 6 inch machine. I can get 7-8 inch coins with the following conditions:
Damp soil
Little or no iron trash
Sensitivity 5-6
Setting the ground balance manually
That is measured depth not the fiction the 3300 says sometimes.

Thanks to all for the replies.
One more thing I noticed about the 3300.
If I am getting a lot of false signals with sensitivity set at four bars, the default setting, I can turn the ground balance knob a little bit counterclockwise and it will eliminate the false signals.
Good hunting, Merf

Default So true, Mr. Silver

MY first machine was a whites 66TR goldmaster that I bought used back in 1980. I still have it. I got pretty good with it and found a lot of old silver, nickles, and pennys. My oldest find was a 1865 two cent piece at a fairgrounds. I am retired now and after about an hour using the Whites [heavy] my artheritic back says I had enough. This new machine is so light I can hunt for hours. Good hunting , Merf
