Default Found my first Mercury

Yes, finally found something good today. Went to my dad's house , the house I grew up in, and had a little bit of competion with my sister. I say I won this one! I found a 1940 Mercury dime, 3 old mason jar lids, an old tractor sprocket and I thought I found my first ring, close but not quite. This 'ring' showed up as a dime, looks like a ring , but looks more like something from a tractor?? Found lots of trash and 'can slaw'. My sister found some clad, trash, and junk! HA !! We will be going back asap, we had to hunt in the rain today!! But it was worth it!!

Congrats on the merc.
Sounds like you are having a blast with that 250. Giving the sister a few lessons huh.
Hunting in the rain ?? We could be so lucky in Montana, ground is so dry it is like trying to dig in concrete. If it ever cools off and rains a bit I am going to take up detecting again

Congratulations on your first Merc, Indy. I found my first one about 25 years ago.....my last one about 3 days ago....and I still get the same sheepish grin every time I see that it's "not a roosevelt". That feeling has never changed over all these years. Mercs are one of my favorite obsolete coin designs. Adolf Weinmann was the last sculptor to serve as an engraver for the US Mint. It's evident in the unimaginative and boring "dead politician" coins we've been saddled with ever since.

Here's hoping you find many, many more.
