Default almost no silver for me tonight....

Went to the school for a couple hours this evening....rather than take a nap...I don't want to fall back into that pattern....and while I didn't dig any silver, I found exactly 3 dollars in clad....which meant I could buy this 27 standing lib for $2.75 ppd....and stick a quarter in the cash box towards the next roll.

I'll take my silver any way I can get it. This is the only way I was getting any silver tonight....and I won't "get it" for about a week. This photo is from the listing. I have bought so many coins from this one seller that I know his address by heart.

I still have the first buffalo nickel I ever dug. In fact I have about 6 of them, only one with a readable date....a 1936 that I found in my cousin's yard in the 70s.

He and his brother used to swipe his dad's coins and go to Fullard's store and buy nickel rolls of "bang" caps.....and we'd smack the whole roll with sledge hammers. It's a wonder any kids from that era survived. There were no knee pads and helmets for bike riding....heck, our bikes didn't have chain guards.

I ended up with 13.37 in clad over the weekend.....which I turned into 3 Franklin halves for 12.98 ppd.

Buying coins is not nearly as fun as diggin' 'em up....but the bag's getting heavier just the same.

I am going to have to go to some schools in neighboring communities....so I can bang out quarters at a good clip. The schoolyards in this area don't have much old stuff in them anymore....and because of that, nobody detects them at all anymore. Most have been accumulating coins for 20 years and have seen no detecting activity.

It's almost as good as the "good old days" if you don't mind the detour through coin dealers. I've bagged 66 silver coins in 3 weeks and 3 days. I've dug 35 and bought 31. That's the only way you accumulate that much silver now. There may be an untouched site or 2 out there...but they are scarce as hen's teeth today.

Wyatt,

Where are you buying all your silver? You finding it on ebay or some other auction site? You are finding quite a bit without buying any. I would love to be doing that but time is too limited right now. WTG

I have a couple sellers on eBay whose stock I watch. Most of the guys on there want too much for the stuff, and then they hit you with totally whacked out postal charges. I have a couple dealers who sell reasonably that I buy from on a regular basis, and one even includes free postage on all of his listings.

I've been hitting it pretty hard, and it's paid off nicely. It's quite addictive. I last about 2 1/2 hours at a time in the field when it's hot or humid...then I have to take a break and cool down.
