Default Paws for concern

Beautiful Sunday afternoon, decided to go in search of some old campsites. Was out riding along a dirt road when I spotted these. Nice set of bear tracks fresh as the morning dew. The Leatherman I have is 8 inches opened so these were fairly large tracks. Hind paw in front and front paw behind it. If you look closely there is a coyote print in the upper left on top heading in the opposite direction as the bear.. Smart coyote..
I did find a camp later, bunch of old ACME beer cans, some 30-30 brass and a cork top Schenley Whiskey bottle..
All in all.... good day.. Bob

This set of tracks actually had another set, a little smaller, walking along side. Figured a large sow and probably an almost mature cub.
I did walk into a sow with cubs a few years back. Was out for a strole with the dogs one morning and walked into her by accident. She was tearing apart an old tree about 75 yards off the dirt road. Figured I could slip by her but she jumped over the log to get at the other side and that's when she saw us. She gave a whoof and two half grown cubs went up the tree behind her. First thought was OH **** but I guess she figured I was a gentleman of honorable intentions and she let me walk slowing out. Dogs are well trained so they just stayed with me and didn't bark. That alone probably saved my bacon.. Bears are pretty common around here and most the time they want to run into you less than you want to run into them. The mountain lions, well that's a different story.. Bob
