This is a "find" for me in and of itself...who knows what it might turn out to be.
I went and asked permission to hunt the yard of a ca 1820 stone home that's about a mile from my house. At first the elderly gentleman said no....and said it was because he had lost his class ring there. I told him that if I were to locate and recover it....that I'd certainly return it, and he consented to let me hunt the property. He told me where the ring was lost, and under what circumstances, so I think I have a pretty good chance of recovering it for him. Cross your fingers. Nobody has ever been allowed to detect this site because of the ring being lost there. I think the 2 lots hold a lot of promise aside from the class ring. This one could turn into a project....after we get some rain there's no telling what kind of coins could be laying there. It's in pretty close proximity to a little mom and pop store that's been in continuous operation since the 40s. I'll post in this thread if I do any good there later. There has to be some goodies for me there. Wyatt Last edited by Wyatt Earp; 08-27-2006 at 12:46 PM. |

Good PR and a little good will is worth more than the little bit of gold in a class ring. This guy's lived here all his life, and he may be the real treasure. It's possible that I could end up with some good leads.
Goin' huntin'.......catch you up later. Wyatt |

I went and detected at this place......and learned a bit more about it. It was a store in the early 1800s....and the original grade has been shoved over the hill
![]() I will still look there some more.....but all I found tonight was about 3 bucks in modern change. I found a quarter under a tree root at 4 inches...silver right? Nope, it was a bicentennial quarter. Makes me wonder how deep the gold class ring (lost in 1958) could be. Also of interest....3 of the coins I found there...were damaged by a mower. That ring could be anywhere and in any condition. Wyatt |

I have carte blanche hunting rights....anytime I want to detect there. I never did actually go around the old house....but stayed in the lower yard where he lost the ring. I dug 2 small pieces of lead, an aluminum measuring cup that was way deep, a couple zinc mason jar lids, and I found earlier (probably mid 60s) style pull tabs as deep as 4 inches.
Hey Greg....My mom's looking to see if she still has any of the NOS glass lined zinc mason jar lids. She had a bunch that were new in the boxes from thate 1950s. I think (and she's not sure if) they're still in the basement there somewhere. I told her you needed some. I took a ride to a modern middle school in a neighboring community...and scored a couple bucks there this morning, but somebody's been keeping that place cleaned up. I ended up with enough clad on the day to buy a 49 Franklin half. Wyatt Last edited by Wyatt Earp; 08-27-2006 at 05:46 PM. |

Great on the lids. I'd like to go over there with you some day to see your 1/2 gallon Mason Jar
