Learned.
  • Seek advice and follow that advice. 4" Coil works better than and 8"
  • Once again read your owners manual and know what it means.
  • Listen to what your detector tells you. Coins may be hidden under trash items.
  • Use quality digging tools. Broke the end off aluminum potting spade and then detected the pieces in the hole. On order this A.M.
  • When hunting along a noisy bypass ear phones are a necessity. On order this A.M.
  • Pull tabs sound like a keeper.
  • It is amazing how a 2005 quarter is buried deeper in the ground than a 1989 Dime. Both coins in the hole about 4 " quarter on the bottom dime on top.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings. Slidding into the creek isn't much fun when you are about 4 feet above the creek.
  • Go slow and make sure your coil is flat to the ground.
  • Practice diggning techniques in the play ground before digging for coins in the area surrounding it.
  • Go slow when digging a target. managed to damage a couple of the pennies. Glad it wasn't an old coin.
  • Some pennies that lie in the ground no longer look like pennies when they are dug up.
  • Place the dirt you dug out of the hole on a piece of plastic and check it thourghly before placing the dirt back in the hole.
  • Non-repeatable tones my be a keeper. Found two dimes setting on end.
  • Pay no attention to individuals that have no idea what metal detecting is all about.
  • Metal Detecting is a great way to clear out the cobwebs and have a great time doing it.
  • PRACTICE PRACTICE AND MORE PRACTICE.
Plan on hunting an area where there should be some old coins this weekend.

We are never to old or smart to keep on learning new things. Like my greandmother told me.
Everyone can teach someone something.
