Default Hunt at Civil War site in Missouri (JD organized )

I am a bit slow on making this post but I have been pretty busy getting ready for my UK trip! I went to a hunt that JD organized a few weeks ago on a site that was a camp for Union Civil war soldiers. I did not find anywhere near as nice of stuff as some others but I had a good day and learned allot thats to some help from JD and the experiance itself.

I found allot of iron, some square nails (not pictured) a buckle, a bent up button (seems to be a eagle), a smashed piece of lead, a clasp of some sort, another small buckle (maybe suspenders?), and what looks to be a spoon or fork handle. The other non smashed bullet I did not find JD found it while he was giving me some help with my detector and he kindly gave it to me. I also won a set of headphones, 2 garret hats and 2 finds bag (one each for me and my daughter!) and a Tesoro patch. It was a great day with some great finds and I cant wait to do it again!

Have fun!!!

Alan

Thanks Ober, it was great to meet you and your family... I sure had fun helping the people who never relic hunted before, for a place that was as pounded as hard as that place has been I cant believe some of the finds.

I dont think people here quite understand what the hunt was all about so i'll educate them especially after people told me about stuff being said in the chat room here...

It was not a Civil War relic hunt like DIV or GNRS... it was a group of friends who have been chatting for over 3 years together on the Treasure Net forum to get together and meet, they had tried to do it every year but the plans fell through each time.

In Otterville Mo. there is a place where Civil War soldiers encamped to guard a railroad bridge, I will post the info about the site here... the old people who own the property have let people detect there for over 28 years... they have a little museum on the property and they love to meet people and have them come over.

So I talked to them and asked if I could have a picnic/hunt there with about 100 people mostly friends who want to get together and meet.
It was never meant to be for professional relic hunters... It was just a fun family outing that happened to be on a Civil War site where they had the chance to find some things... and the owners were more than happy to have it there.

So thats how it started after years of trying I was able to get a set place and the hunt just exploded from there... I charged $25.00 per hunter and $10.00 per each non hunter there were 43 hunters 35 non hunters I used the money to pay for part of a Fri. night dinner at the American Legion in Warsaw Mo. and to buy some of the door prizes. we got sponsors and people who just started donating things on there own we gave away over $5,000 in door prizes in the end 78 people showed up and it turned out to be a great and fun experiance. Many people never even detected we just hung around and told stories and laughed and many friendships were made during the weekend.

Treasure Net had to give the hunt itts own thread ... here is the Url of everyones finds and hundreds of pictures and stories from the hunt are there... check it out for yourself...

I could also hold the same type of family orientated hunt for this forum also leyt me know if you are interested?? hh all jd

Looks like you had a great hunt with all your friends, and alot of interesting finds.
Also, I'm in the chat room all the time and I don't ever remember anyone "badmouthing" your hunt.
Good luck on your future hunts.
