I was supposed to do a road trip today to purchase wood....but man, it was so nice when I went to the post office that I decided to just detect the yard across the street. I'd detected it many times, and it had given up 10 silver coins....not bad for a yard about 30 feet square.
Seems I missed a few. In about 2 hours, I recovered 19 more coins from this little yard. The 1943 quarter was the real surprise at just 3 inches. I'm thinking "clad" all the way (because it was so shallow) when this one pops out The 1941 merc was right along the sidewalk, partially masked by a 1950-D wheat penny which was also pretty shallow. The dime reading showed up after recovering the shallow wheat. The buffalo.....I must have ignored 20 times. It was only 2 inches deep, and registered more like a zinc penny than a nickel. I had just dug the masked dime, so I decided to get the "zincoln" out of the way in case there was something good down deeper. Imagine my surprise when what I thought was a zinc penny.....turned out to be this 1937 Buffalo. ![]() I'm gonna get some work done yet today, but man it's hard to do....knowing how warm it is outside. Oh well....I did a little damage today anyway. I have now broken the 23.00 face value (silver) mark since last October. 25.00 is my goal before years' end. I think I can do it....in the yards of private residences. The park gave up 2 colonial flat buttons on saturday....one of which was pewter and which I accidentally tossed. The other one I still have. The only silver to show up on saturday was a 51 rosey which I found near the concession...under a root about 4 inches down. Wyatt |

Congrats on your silver finds! I like how you set a goal and it does seem as though you are going to accomplish that goal! Keep on hunting that small field... it seems you are doing quite well there!

It's a corner lot.....adjacent to a ca 1900 storefront...right on the main street of this little burg. I figure a million kids must have cut across that yard over the years on their way to get candy and stuff from that old store. I wish they'd tear up the sidewalks in this part of town. That's where the really old stuff that's left is laying.

You're right Indy. It takes an awful lot of effort to clean a place out. I went to the park for about an hour today....working the end that I seldom go to (to increase the possibility of finding silver) and was rewarded with a 1956 Rosey. 3 silver coins in one day is a good day for me. All I do is go to the same places. Seems eventually they'll be played out, but I keep going anyway....for lack of any new sites....and I keep finding a few silver coins here and there that I've missed on previous outings.
