Default First Gold and Real Ring Too

I got out for a short time Monday in the woods right next to my house. I have searched this spot a couple of times before and found a few lincoln cents and other trash items. The area is covered in small trees and brush and makes detecting hard work but today it paid off. I got a good dime/quarter tone and flipped a shovel full of dirt over and out rolled a large chunk of GOLD. It was my first gold and my first class ring. i stopped detecting right then and headed for home to clean it up. It is a class of 1965 from Farm Life High School right here in town. The school is no longer in existence as a high school. I started my search and think I have already found the owner(or is that loser) of the ring. His mother lives across the street from me and I plan to go see her today and see if it is his and if so, return it. My week has been blessed. Happy Hunting All.

What a sweet thing for you to do - return the ring. The people on this forum are just the nicest. May this good turn turn into many many more good opportunities for you. JoAnne

Default Update:

I returned the ring this evening to the mother of the owner. She is the elderly lady who lives across the street. She was very surprised and told me her now deceased husband was the one who lost the ring. He used to wear it and was cutting wood when he lost it. She never expected to see it again but was thankful for having it returned. Maybe one good deed will bring me an even better find soon.

Totally awesome what you did by returning that ring! Your neighbor will always remember this day! Not only did you find the ring and the owner, you also obtained a personal story about that ring and how it was lost. I'm sure her husband searched for that ring for quite a number of days before giving up hope in ever obtaining it again... the majority of MD finds have no personal history to accompany them! Congrats to you!

Default Way to go Chief

Great thing you did with the ring.... I once returned a ring I found (while in Florida) to the rightful owner... it makes you feel good inside to do something like that. I still get Christmas cards from the family I returned the ring to....
