The last couple outings at the park and roller rink have produced about 3 bucks in modern coinage, though a clad quarter at 7 inches and a pulltab at 8 inches are the deepest of either of those targets I've dug. I was beginning to think I'd never dig another silver coin...
So...I decided to go to a yard that I'd already detected in the past and which has given up some silver too.....and I don't know how I missed this one. It was a scant 3 inches deep. The surfaces are pretty badly damaged....a real shame too since this dime had a full liberty and was in VF condition when lost. It was black when I dug it, and I thought at first that it was a penny....until I saw the wreath on the reverse. I also got a 1939 wheat penny in the same yard. It was about 5 inches down and must have been like new when lost.
This is just my 5th barber dime ever. 2 nasty ones...and 3 nice ones. Still...it's silver, so even though it's a nasty one...I'll take it
Just 65 cents to go.....and I doubt if I make it to my goal. It won't be for not trying though.
