Default $5 Mercantile Trade Coin

I got my first metal detector yesterday (a Tesoro Silver uMax w/grey ghost headphones), and I thought of a lot of places I would like to go, but I decided to get familiar with my gear by checking around my house, which was built in the early 70s. I picked up a ton of junk... countless pop tops, screws, nails, cans, etc. I even picked up the head of a shovel, an arrow, and an entire washing machine that had been buried underground. I gave up for awhile and went inside, then decided to come back out and not give up til i found something interesting. Then the next thing I found I was satisfied with. It was a good sized copper coin that was stamped "Burnsville Mercantile Company - $5.00 - Good For Trade Only" and had some embled on the front and back. Burnsville is a town about 40 miles from where I live. It has to be pretty old. But then as I was cleaning it, I rubbed a bit too hard and broke it into three pieces. I was heartbroken.
So all in a day's work I ended up with a large pocket full of paraphenalia, 3 cents, a $5 trade coin, and a new addiction.

chemlabrat you are doing it the right way.
Everything you have found just proves one very important thing.

YOU ARE LEARNING YOUR MACHINE BEFORE
YOU GET OUT INTO THE FIELD.

There are people who get one and just read the book once and take off.

Now when you go to a old farmhouse or really good site you will understand what it is telling you.

Then they are usually disappointed and the detector sits in a closet.
I bet now when you make a nice find you
won't rub it too hard.
GOOD LUCK
