Default 2007 Off To A Good Start

Went diggin with my buddy Dale today. We hit the woods looking for more relics. This site was a big New York camp during the winter of 1862-63. It was a really good button day for me and the lead was comming out of the ground too. Dale dug a bunch of bullets and a LC. Not sure of the date. Hard to believe I was diggin in a short sleeve shirt but who's complaining! Thanks for looking!

Marc

Way to go Marc - I am a little confused. You said it was a NY Camp. So was it in NY or VA? Since I am in NY I am curious.

Default It was a winter camp here in Virginia....

After the Union was defeated at Fredericksburg the troops hunkered down for the winter in Stafford County. At one point there were over 135,000 Union troops camped here. The New York boys were camped all over the county.

Default nice goodies!

That's what I like, a guy that also knows the history of the site he's working. Way to go marc! I read your story on the 1792 1/2 disme in coin world or nusmesmatic news mags. I forget which! As I was reading the story at work I told a buddy of mine I thought the article was about you. Did you get the coin appraised yet? What kind of value? I like to be able to tell people who put our hobby down, how rewarding it can be. That you know somebody first hand who did well. Much success to you marc, looking forward to hooking up with you again sometime in spring. greg

Thanks Greg! Yea my 1792 1/2 disme find was in Coin World back in November. It will also be included in the upcomming W&ET Best Finds issue. What a thrill it was to find that coin. I am not going to give out much more info yet but I can say that I have consigned my half disme to Stacks Rarities for their upcomming Baltimore auction in March. As for value we shall see. There is a very high demand for this coin especially in circulated condition. I will let you know when I plan on heading up your way for my diggin trip.

Marc
