Default rooled coins

I like searching through bank rolls. It's my winter hobby, since I can't md.I start out getting $100 in rolled change, quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies. Always ask for the old hand rolled coins when possible. I go through the rolls looking for oldies, silver , wheaties 50's or older nickels etc. I reroll the coins and turn them into a different bank, so you don't get the same roll over again. It's a thrill when you find a good coin. Almost like diggin one. I've heard of people finding whole rolls of oldies. This gets me through the winter till I fire up the xlt again. HH to all who still can!

A few mexican coins, 1940 wheat and a canadian dime.

Always keep the bicentennial quarters.

Found a clipped nickel a while back.

I just deposited $275 in searched quarters, including bi-centennials; should I be keeping them, and if so how much are they actually worth??

I'm not really sure if they are worth alot.
The bicentennial quarters were produce in quantity.
Starting with alot of prestrikes in 1975.

As far as the rest of the quarters, it would be like most coins and research would be required to see what is rare and collectable.
Some people keep quarters from 1964 and earlier. Starting in 1965 quarters were no longer silver, but nickel and copper instead.
Making pre-1965 quarters worth pennies more because of the silver content.

I just like the bicentennial.

Here's an article.

Dick,
The bi-centennials were minted by the hundres of millions so they are very common. Many people saved them because they were "dfferent" but as far as value goes, the ones you find in circulation are just worth 25 cents.
I do agree with dougdann though, I also hoard them because I love the reverse design. Even if they aren't worth much.

Thanks for the comments, Doug and Digger

I'm new to the Coin Roll Hunting thing, just searching for silver, wheats, obvious misstrikes, pre 1960 Nickels. Finding out it's a very addicting thing to partake in, just like MDing;

and a great way to spend a winter's evening

Default things found in change

hello, i've been going through rolled change from bank all my life. on year after i got my taxes back in 2003. i went to the bank and bought some kennedy half to fill my books with. i only bought $300.00 worth. out of that 300.00 i got 25.00 in 64-69 halves. so i went back and asked how many more rolls they had. so they went in the back and said $680.00 worth. i said i will take them. so i ended up with $98.00 in 64-69 kennedys. i also bought some nickels before i deployed to iraq and the first roll i opened there was a 2003-s proof nickel. nothing else to great just a bunch of pre 60's that i keep. i bought some 20.00 of hand rolled pennies from a small bank here on base and ended up with 235 wheats. so i sent my wife back to the bank as i was still searching and they had sent them off to the main branch. i find good coins all of the time. not to muck silver these days though.

Red face

great job, not to saound too stupid, but I am, which quarters, nickels and dimes are silver???? I have collected wheat pennies for a lot of years, my mom had some and I just went on. Is there a certain mint place, ie S, P or D
Is D- Denver, P, Philly, and S San Fran/or Sacramento???

How do you tell proof's when they are in circulation????

I have several kennedy 1/2's that I keep, a few Saga 1/ and few Susan B anthony's I try to get my grkids one each of the new quarters and nickels to help them get started in collecting. Used to have a few 1945 pennys somewhere, will find them again now that I am doing this again.

Always checking my change for fun but don't know enough yet

good hunting in the change department to all.

blessings
