Default Way To Go.....

.....Ed! I have found a few of those friction primers at a couple of the old frontier forts in Kansas. Didn't know what they were for the longest time, then I finally found them in one of my CW picture books!

Cool finds bro. Cute paper towels too.

Still don't know what a friction primer is though... guess I'll go google it.

EDIT: Okay, I'm back and I know exactly what a friction primer is. Found out from the following website, where this dude successfully hunts deer with his civil war cannon (howitzer?). ****, you can find just about anything on the internet...

HOWITZER HUNT - Mountain Howitzer Cannon Whitetail Deer Hunt and build your own 12 pound Mountain Howitzer Cannon

Default Canister Shot

Here is a definition of Canister Shot, hope this helps.

Ed

Case Shot - Properly, case shot refers to grape shot, canister, or spherical case shot, an artillery round that purposely breaks apart on firing and is used as an antipersonnel load. Most often in Civil War literature, references to case shot imply spherical case, a round invented in 1784 by English artilleryman Lt. Henry Shrapnel. It was an iron sphere filled with bits or balls of iron and a bursting charge intended to break apart shortly after firing. Its effective range was 500-1,500 yards.
