Default I feel really stupid.

I was opening all my metal detecting accessories and found my "mad money" I had forgot my placing it in my pack. And I forgot I had hid the stash in it.......in 1988. I found five $100.00 bills! I was saving up for a dredge.
This reminded me of the time I was hunting Prarie Chickens with a buddy. His first shot at a chicken was met with the pretties display of confetti coming out of the shotgun barrel, all green and white. He just stood there looking at it blow in the wyoming wind. Like you slapped him with a bag of cold water. I asked him what that was. He turned and looked at me. "That was $400.00. I was saving up for a new Elk rifle. I had the money rolled up in the barrel."
He didn't really act like he enjoyed the rest of the bird hunt that day.

You know, my Dad (when he was still with us) used to tell us boys not to go "blow your wad" when he gave us our .50 cent allowance. Now you've cleared that all up for me, thanks!

He did get the prarie chicken, I don't know how he felt when he got to eat it though.
He was always hiding money like this. He sold a pickup and had to go back and talk the guy into letting him get a stash of money out of it. He ended up splitting the money with the guy. I remember more than once having to help him "look" for his money before we were off somewhere's.
I forgot mine. Because my wife at the time decided that she didn't want to be married any more. I had to put most of my stuff in storage and leave it for a few years. And then traveled alot with my job. So wasn't able to do fun stuff like for a lot of years. And now I finally get maybe time to do it, I hope.

He finally got his gun a few years later. He almost got us killed with it. We was hunting elk in the rockies (thats all you get out of me) we came upon what was left of a cabin. In it was 15 sticks of dinamite with long, long cats whiskers of nitro on them. It sat under a fireplace with a large rock over it. He took off the rock and was reaching for the box when I stopped him. I almost had a heart attack or worse if I hadn't seen him. To stop him. We talked about it and left the place. I heard him jack a shell in the gun as were walking. I turned around and saw him aim back into the fireplace. We were only about 75 yards away. I jumped behind a rotted log as he touched off the gun. The explosion blew him about 10 feet backward. And his gun went flying. We had rocks still coming down after a good 30 to 45 second after the blast. Our ears were ringing like heck. And the hole where the partial cabin sat was about 20 feet across and 6 to 8 feet deep. We heard later the explosion was heard in the town almost 11 miles away.
The last year I was running around with this guy. We was hunting pheasant. We seen one right beside the road. And he stopped the bronco. I knew something wasn't right. I told him the pheasant wasn't acting right. It never moved just stood rock still on the irrigation bank. I was looking at a abandonded farmhouse about 500 feet up the road. I got a chill. He eased out of the door. And as he was standing on the dividing line of the highway reading his shotgun. I waved both hands and put them on the dash. He shot, said a cuss word, shot again. The bird never moved. I was just thinking how much trouble I was in. Pretty soon a gamewarden drove out of the yard of the farmhouse. And he had another one with them. As they got to us I got out. Ready to take my punishment. I asked what made the pheasant so still. It was one the froze and had standing with a piece of black colored welding rod. You couldn't see. I didn't get a ticket but the wardens said my actions should be one tv. They showed me on video and you didn't need a narrator. My face and actions told the story. My buddy got several offenses on him and cost him over $1500.00
The last time I went with this guy, we seen some mule deer. We was in the mountains and drove past them. They were bedded in a small clearing just before dark. It was on a hill so we decided to put the sneak on them. As we were walking away from the brand new Ford Lariat with 1368 miles on it and still smelling new. I asked it he set the emergency brake."H*** yes! C'mon lets get them bucks!"
We got about 150 yards from the truck sitting on a hillside road in the national forest. We heard a loud Pop sound. It got out of gear. And turned to see the pickup roll down the road gaining speed. It went off the end of the road. And we looked at each other as we heard it crash, scrape, roll down a 1000 feet embankment. Finally splashing into a river.
"Do you think it scared the deer?" He said with the most serious look on his face. It did. He did get a real nice 6x7 muley as we were walking out to the main road. Before we hitched rides to town 110 miles away.
I never hunted with this guy again. He always was after me to go prospecting and metal detecting with him. I might some day. If I get to feeling extra lucky. I heard his fourth wife is a good cook. First three couldn't take him. Wonder why?

Oh My God - he sounds like a hoot. Might better stay away from someone like that but then if you did you would not have these stories to retell here on TQ. Just goes to show you - people will do the strangest things. JoAnne
