Default Old Fort = Spanish Silver

Hey, dudes, it has been awhile since the club and I got out to do some treasure hunting. Last night, during my phone conversation with Paco, he said, "You guys are nuts! It isn't worth going out!" My response was, "It is a sickness, dude! Silver Zeus, Zoyboy, and I will be equipped with chisel and hammer, so, there ain't a nothin' that is going to stop us!"

Once we were on the 1700s fort site, the jokes started "flying." After about 45 minutes of continuous joking and detecting, I soon got a nice hit that brought me back to "seriousness." The target was reading a steady 56 V.D.I. and pinpointed at 3.5". I literally thought to myself, "Be careful, dude, with this one." After about 10 minutes of sledge hammering, I plucked a perfect, small area of dirt out. That was when I saw the Spanish silver shining brightly in the hole (it was stuck on edge). I instantly yelled, "Spanish Silver!!!" Zoyboy was about 40 yards away from me, and on those two words, he dropped his detector, and sprinted to me in about 4.38 seconds. Silver Zeus was the next to arrive at the retrieval site, while Zoy and I were dancing around like happy gibbons.

But, the digging process was not completed, because the coin was still stuck at the bottom of the hole. I still needed to chisel the coin out...YIKES! After finally chiseling it out, I was rewarded with a dateless Spanish half-reale.

It was my 1st silver coin of the year!

I am just thankful to have not chopped it in half. Hmmm, if I had "decked" it in two, I could have said, "Oh s***, a pocket spill of cut pieces." Who would have known? hehehe

I owe it all to my trusty 4 X 6 shooter DD. Once I had about an inch chipped out, I put the small coil in the hole and it showed me where the hell the coin was at. I don't think the 9.5" stock would have been able to accurately center me over the target.

Thanks, DD bud, I appreciate your services.
